Lip Movement Device Unlock Feature revealed in Huawei's recently granted Patent

A new Huawei patent application that demonstrates a rapid device unlock capability by lip movement was published by China's Patent Office.

About Patent: Application CN113051535A for the Huawei patent was submitted on December 26, 2019, and it was accepted on June 29, 2021 and according to Kind Code of Patent Application in Espacenet, it seems that patent was granted on Mar 03, 2023 (CN113051535B). However, confirmation related to exact status as on date needs to be confirmed from Chinese Patent Office.

The patent, according to the specifics, provides a device unlock technique that verifies the user's identity and unlocks the device using biological characteristics of the user's lip movement. Flexible anti-forgetting, anti-plagiarism, and adaptable technologies.

The main component of the technology entails capturing the initial lip movement feature in accordance with the present lip movement image. The degree of similarity between the first and second lip movement features is taken into consideration when deciding whether to unlock the device, and the second lip movement feature is used to unlock the device because it is pre-stored.

The lip movement unlocks feature, which is similar to its name, uses the movement of the lips to unlock the corresponding device. It might be used as an alternative to biometric unlock options like face and fingerprint identification.

When in use, the gadget might make use of a selfie camera, infrared and depth sensors, and other sensors that are currently employed in facial recognition.

Huawei hasn't said yet whether or not this lip unlock feature will be used in production.
